San Francisco’s grandest Easter morning tradition gets under way at Mount Davidson Cross. The 2016 citywide celebration atop the city’s highest peak marks the 94th anniversary of the event. Community leaders taking part in Easter Sunrise 2016 include SF Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White and SF Supervisor Malia Cohen. The program also features musical performances by Voice of Victory and Lynne Miller of The House of Bagpipes. 2016 Sunrise Easter Service & Live Music on Top of a Mountain | SFLocal clergy will preside at the non-denominational service to deliver the Easter message.

America’s largest cross will be illuminated by spotlights totaling 48,000 watts on the evening of March 26, 2016, shining as a beacon for Easter morning pilgrims. Special bus service on Muni’s 36 line begins at 5:30 am and runs every 15 minutes from Forest Hill Station to the park gate located at the intersection of Lansdale Avenue, Myra Drive and Dalewood Way – two blocks south of Portola Drive. The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, the kabuki-inspired cross-dressing nuns-of-fun, host their 37th Easter Sunday in the Park at Hellman Hollow in Golden Gate Park. There’s a family-friendly Children’s Easter celebration at 11 am, but the real fun follows after the kids head home with adult-friendly fare like the Easter Bonnet Contest, burlesque, a trashcan marching band, everyone’s favorite blasphemous hoot, and of course the Foxy Mary and the Hunky Jesus contests.
