San Francisco City Hall
It is the seat of government for our city and county and yes, with the festive decorative lighting, it sure is pretty too.
Re-opened in 1915 in its open space area in the city’s Civic Center, it is a Beaux-Arts monument to the City Beautiful movement that epitomized the high-minded American Renaissance of the 1880s to 1917. Did you know that City Hall’s dome is the fifth largest in the world? It’s taller than that of the Capitol by 42 feet.
The present building replaced an earlier City Hall that was destroyed during the 1906 earthquake, which was 2 blocks from the present one.
City Hall is located at 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place, in San Francisco, and is open to the public Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
